  • Pichu's death in episode 3, "Caught in the Crossfire". As Mewtwo is charging up his most powerful Shadow Ball to use against Fox, Pichu rushes in and calls out his name, causing Fox to realize that Pichu is behind him just as Mewtwo launches his Shadow Ball. Fox jumps out of the way, causing the Shadow Ball to hit Pichu and fatally injure him. What follows is Mewtwo rushing to his dying friend.
    Mewtwo: Pichu...
    Pichu: Mew...
Mewtwo: I'm sorry, Pichu! I'm so, so-
Pichu: This... this isn't your fault, Mewtwo. Just promise me one thing...
    Mewtwo: Anything!
Pichu: Keep... uh... fighting... and n-never... lose... faith...(Dies)
    • Mewtwo actually cries once Pichu has died. Not helped by Fox walking in to twist the knife even more.
Fox: He's wrong, Mewtwo. This is your fault. Had you simply surrendered when I offered it, your friend would still be alive. And he might not be the only casualty. (Cut to the other fighters being curb-stomped by the brainwashed fighters) By nature, we are all gifted with skills and strength needed to fight. But I've augmented the power of my allies to levels previously unheard of! Now they aren't just equipped to fight, they're equipped to kill if need be!
    • After Fox is defeated and the brainwashed fighters have been freed, Mewtwo is less than happy about the events that have transpired, especially the death of Pichu.
Mewtwo: We've won, but not without a price. We stood against a terrible evil today, an evil from within our own ranks. We successfully fought it back, but not before it took the life of our youngest smasher. Pichu was... He was a great friend, a constant beacon of happiness. Even when things seemed hopeless, practically nothing could keep his spirits down. And I'll deeply miss him. We all will.
    • Pikachu is devastated over the death of his younger brother.
Pikachu: (Through his tears) I should have kept a better eye on him! I should have kept him somewhere safe!
    • The credits montage for episode 3 consists of some clips of Pichu and Mewtwo's good times together, culminating with Mewtwo standing on the same rooftop that Fox does at the end of the title sequence for the first 3 episodes.
  • Episode 4, "Return to Form" shows that Mewtwo is suffering from PTSD over Pichu's death, to the point that he outright refuses to use a fully charged Shadow Ball in any of the tournaments due to the fact that it was that very move that killed him.
    • After losing to Donkey Kong, Mewtwo returns to the room where Pichu was hit by the Shadow Ball that killed him.
Mewtwo: I'm trying, Pichu. Trying with all my power. But without you, it's impossible. I'm sorry. Sorry that I continue to fail you.
    • Then when Pikachu comes in, he questions Mewtwo as to why he didn't use Shadow Ball, then has a realization of what happened.
Pikachu: I saw your match earlier. Why'd you do that?
    Mewtwo: Do what, exactly?
Pikachu: Not use Shadow Ball. You started to use it, but then you just... stopped.
    Mewtwo: (Turns away from Pikachu)
Pikachu: (Realizing what happened) Oh... I see... So that's how it happened.
Mewtwo: It wasn't meant for him. It was meant for that... that traitor! I don't want to risk bloodying my hands anymore than I already have.
Pikachu: Mew, that wasn't your fault. You shouldn't blame yours-
Mewtwo: Am I wrong for blaming myself!? Am I wrong to assume responsibility for murdering my closest friend!? For murdering your brother!?
Pikachu: No... No, I... I guess not...
Mewtwo: Then you understand my reasoning.
  • Episode 5, "Homecoming" has Fox listening to Falco's voicemail messages while stuck in Final Destination. It doesn't help that on the last message, Falco actually sounds like he's on the verge of tears.
Falco: Hey, Fox, it's me again. I, uh... I noticed you took an extra outfit with you. Mind telling me where you're at? (Next message) Yo, Fox! you've been gone pretty much all day. You alright? Just hit me up with your location so I know you're doing okay. (Next message) It's me again. Fox, I get it, you're sore about losing, but you can't storm off like this forever. I'm going to do a quick fly-by and look for you myself. Then maybe we can talk things out. (Next message) Hey, Fox, just got done with my fly-over and I couldn't find you. I'm thinking of asking Zelda to gather everyone and launch a search party, unless you want to save us the trouble and just answer my calls. (Next message) Come on, Fox... Please...
