• When Philo discovers Aisling's old recorded songs, and listens to the lullaby.
• Philo going to sit with Aisling's body after figuring out she was his birth mother.
• Seeing Vignette distraught at thinking Philo was dead, and telling him that she wished that she had died as well.
• Philo reveals that he's half-fae to his lover Portia, believing that he can trust her and that she'll understand. She instead reacts with disgust and immediately reports him to the police, which leads to Philo becoming a prime suspect in a series of murders when they discover that all of the victims had a past connection to him. Although they weren't in a genuine relationship, it's still heartbreaking to see Philo be betrayed by someone he trusted and cared about, even if she does later regret her actions.
• The entire overall situation for the Fae. They have been oppressed and ravaged by mankind, who see them as little more than vermin, and their only options in life come down to enduring either the racist Burgue or the genocidal Pact.
