Tear Jerker / Blue's Clues & You!

Go To

Even in a cartoon about a dog and her owner solving riddles, some moments can still make a tear fall.

  • In "Meet Josh", of the more happy variety, the fact that Steve still remembers us after all these years, and that Joe does as well.
Steve: Hey, can I talk to my friend out there?
    Josh: Oh, sure.
    (close up on Steve)
Steve: Hi! So, will you help my cousin Josh?
    (Beat)
    Steve: You will?
    (Beat)
Steve: Great, because I can tell he's gonna need a lot of help. ...Like I did.
    Joe: And like I did.
    Steve: Right.
Steve & Joe: (while signing 'thanks') Thanks.
  • In "Big News with Blue", Josh finds out the twins Sage and Ginger are born, and the scene gets incredibly emotional from there. Josh holding the two twin babies with care, and then Blue making a special note for the newborns that welcomes them to the family. Josh's gentle, whispery renditions of We Just Figured Out Blue's Clues and the So Long Song are beautiful and soft. The latter is even debatably sadder than the original. Both are filled with such warmth and care that it's admirable.
  • "Sad Day With Blue" makes you really feel for the poor puppy. She even continues to mope during "To Play Blue's Clues".
  • As in the original series, even though he loves his new life, Periwinkle regrets having to leave his old home for an unstated reason and abandon his old friends who live in the big city, but this version has a bonus, as he is implied to have lived with his grandfather before moving with Aly to the neighborhood, he makes it clear that he misses his grandfather Mauve terribly and hates being unable to see him as often as he used to.
  • Thinking about "Blue's Dino Clues" from Mother Triceratops' point of view seems terrible especially to an adult watching it, while our protagonists were having their occasional adventures, she was looking for her egg throughout the episode and under normal circumstances it would be practically impossible to find, since it ended up outside the world of dinosaurs in the our protagonists living room.
  • 'Magenta's Thank You Day Surprise" (or "Thank You Day")
    • Magenta spends the entire episode lamenting how her card was ruined. No wonder, the end of the episode reveal that the card was a gift to her owner and best friend Miranda.
    • How did Magenta and Miranda meet? Miranda was a new kid with no friends in the neighborhood, and then Magenta showed up one day. Sounds familiar right? Because it's similar to how Steve and Blue know each other in "Blue First Holiday".
  • Joe's motivation for abducting the Thinking Chair in "The case of the Missing Thinking Chair"? He believes that he and his cousin and brother are often busy so are unable to spend time together. His line "Every day is a gift... that you pay for" about having to work a lot to maintain a business in New York seems a little sadder than funny when you think about it now.
  • Although it's quite funny, "Josh and Blue's Ice Cream Shoppe" also has a sad note at its core, as it reminds us again about how beneath his happy and cheerful exterior, Josh is a nervous guy with some trust issues.
    • As the episode goes on, Josh makes several comments about how he misses his friends and almost all of his funny moments are marked by a reminder that without his friends he feels alone.
Josh: Oh yeah. Our friends love to help us find clues. I only wish they were here...
    • After Josh finds the first clue he hears his puppy crying and goes to see what the problem is, only to find Blue sad because the ice cream they made for his friends had melted.
    • After he solves Blue's clues, he excitedly goes to the beach and is extremely happy to see his friends, that is, before realizing that he and Blue were never invited and coming to the conclusion that maybe his friends didn't want him there. Of course, Mailbox later reveals that Josh was invited, he was just unable to meet Josh and Blue during the episode, but seeing the poor guy sad at the thought that his friends abandoned him on purpose is heartbreaking.
Josh: Maybe we should just go…
  • "If You Don't See It, Be It!" reveals that Josh had some pretty racist friends as a kid, only letting him play the villain due to his skin color. Just ouch.
