Honey Heist is a one-page Tabletop Roleplaying Game from creator Grant Howitt, published via Rowan, Rook and Decard.
The game is designed to be played as a one-shot and the player characters are a gang of criminal bears, who'll be attempting to rob HoneyCon 2017 of its honey.
The system is very rules light and characters have only two statistics - Criminal and Bear. The two stats are opposed, and their values (which change a lot during play) always total six. If a stat reaches six, the character goes out of control and leaves the game.
Honey Heist contains examples of:
- Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: As part of the character creation process, each player decides if their bear wears a hat.
- Bad Ol' Badger: Played straight. Although they're not actually bears, honey badgers also appear in the character creation tables. Their special ability is “carnage".
- The Caper: The core plot of the game. A gang of criminal bears have a complicated plan to steal honey.
- Flashback: Flashbacks to planning sessions in a seedy bar are used as a mechanism to reduce a player character's Bear stat and improve their Criminal stat.
- The Hilarity of Hats: Bears in randomly chosen distinctive hats are an option (e.g. in a bowler hat or a fez) - and if the dice are so inclined, bears may start with multiple hats.
- Historical Domain Character: Abraham Lincoln's beehive may or may not be haunted by his ghost.
- Laser Hallway: One of the possible security features for HoneyCon is "laser tripwires".
- Honest Rolls Character: Player character statistics and background are determined by random rolls.
- Honor Among Thieves: Represented by one of the game mechanics. If a character's Criminal stat ever reaches the maximum, they double-cross the rest of the crew and leave the game.
- Smart Animal, Inconvenient Instincts: Part of the game mechanics. If a character's Bear stat ever reaches the maximum, they lose control, probably get detained by animal control, and leave the game.
