  • Klein driving a boulder-shaped vehicle and appearing at unexpected times, could be a reference to how a certain sponge says that "the pioneers could drive these babies for miles". He also mentions that its bigger on the inside.
  • Kirito's thoughts of falling for Sachi with enough time is a nod to their close (If not, romantic) relationship in Volume 2 of canon, prior to the former's relationship with Asuna.
  • Sachi mowing down the Floor Trap enemies with ease and hilarity while finishing the special event, "Sachi's Bizarre Adventure".
  • The Boss that appeared during the engagement against Titan Hand was a creature from Monster Hunter: World. Silica later shows up with unique armor and skill set from the franchise.
  • Philia, discovers a ring and calls it her precious. When Kirito first meets her, she's gone so far as to wear a suit of armor similar to Sauron.
  • In order to deal with Kirito in a coma, Suguha takes up making model kits. Her personal favorite is one of the Wing Zero EW Custom. Upon ending up in SAO, her avatar takes up the appearance and weaponry of aforementioned gundam due to the memory card she used having a virtual model stored on it, which the glitched out Cardinal system merged with her ALO character data.
  • Upon entering Aincrad, Sinon appears in a bright red outfit and asks Kirito "Are you my Master?" Complete with all of the abilities and weapons that go with said outfit.
  • After being swallowed by a boss in the hollow area, Argo ends up getting a pair of blue and green energy blades belonging to a certain hierarch. Her cloak also becomes darker as if "a piece of the night was clinging to her" and remarks that she could be an actual Dark Templar
  • Strea appears decked out in clothing and weaponry straight from Bloodborne, even announcing Prey Slaughtered whenever she successfully defeats an enemy. In Chapter 13, Ludwig the Accursed also appears and is defeated, with Strea taking his Holy Sword. More bosses from the series appear later on.
  • In Chapter 13, Kizmel suddenly gains the power to manipulate elements as well as an arrow tattoo on her forehead.
  • In Chapter 14, A quest that Liz & Asuna takes rewards Asuna with the Armor of Libra.
  • Asuna's use of her Shield is clearly based after Avengers: Endgame.
  • Lizbeth happens to find an Iron Man Suit in the Hallow Area.
  • Lux ends up summoning the Oblivion Keyblade to her in chapter 17.
  • In Chapter 19, Strea and Yui's alter-ego, the corrupted remains of MHCP-001: Yui have a talk the day before the final battle, discussing the nature of MHCP-001: Yui's relation to Yui as well as how Strea should use her own corrupted data to kill Cardinal. During the talk, MHCP-001: Yui, who manifests as a vaguely humanoid form with rattling chains and a mask that seemed to peer into the soul, ponders whether she, herself, is the mask that protects little Yui, or if it's the other way around, mentioning that there is a psychological term that describes the masks that one wears to protect oneself from the world. Later, she remembers the term's name: Persona.
