• Yorick the skull is directly taken from Hamlet.
• The red-and-white-checkered moon rocket from the Tintin albums Tintin: Destination Moon and Tintin: Explorers on the Moon shows up in a few stories, one of which is titled Genius to the Moon (and appears in the album with the same name).
• Leonard invents a belt so he and Basile can travel fairy tale stories. They meet Puss in Boots, the main characters from Little Red Riding Hood and the witch from Hansel and Gretel. They also find the Sleeping Beauty's castle.
• Leonard and Basile travel on a boat where the captain is Popeye.
• One strip has Leonard inventing Space Invaders, which offends a pixelated alien.
• The second part of "Genius Wars" is called "The Genius Strikes Back".
• In the strip where Leonard invents fashion, he makes Basile wear costumes of Obelix, Tintin and Donald Duck.
• Donald Duck makes a background cameo when Leonard and Basile ponder ideas for a cartoon.
• During a "Game where you are the hero", Basile comes across three doors whose labels are the opposite of Indiana Jones Movie titles: "Sedentaries of the found ark", "The blessed temple" (the French title of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom translates to The Cursed Temple) and "The first crusade".
• The first attempt at plastic surgery gives Basile Droopy's head.

• After two days of intense physical training, Basile looks like Rambo. He also says that he would have liked to look like a boxer, referencing another Sylvester Stallone role.
• When Basile howls like a wolf at the sight of a sexy Mathurine, Leonard asks him to stop because they might have problems with Tex Avery.
• When Raoul's tail is lengthened, Yorick calls him the Marsupilami.
• Leonard calls Basile "The man who sleeps faster than his shadow" in reference to Lucky Luke's title of "The man who shoots faster than his shadow". Raoul even dons a cowboy outfit.
• When Raoul meets an alien, he asks "E.T. phone home?".
• When Leonard invents the newspaper, Basile imagines himself as Tintin.
• Basile meets Pinocchio after being swallowed by a whale.
• The French title of the 34th comic "Docteur Génie et Mister Aïe" sounds like "Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde".
• Leonard invents a mecha to attack his neighbor who also does the same. They're obviously based on UFO Robo Grendizer which was a massive hit in francophone countries.
