Many of the references to other works in this fic come in the form of songs.

  • When The Prankster Invisibles are dramatically joking that they've ruined the Horned King's fashion sense by setting on fire the cobwebs in his fur stole, they exclaim "WHAT KIND OF MONSTERS ARE WE!?". Spongebob said that line (much more quietly though) in "Band Geeks".
  • The first song Avalina plays with the castle's piano is "Let Me In" from Rigoletto. Months later she plays another song for the Horned King from the same movie: "The Curse".
  • The second song Avalina plays with the piano is "Weep Ye No More Sad Fountains" from Sense and Sensibility.
  • At one point, the second Invisible says "You have learned well, young grasshopper".
  • Creeper gets drunk from mead and sings some parts of the song "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch".
  • Before Avalina asks the Horned King to make acquaintance with Mitternacht for the first time after the Mad Pack incident, she plays him "There is Life" from Bambi II.
  • The Silly Love Song sung by the Invisibles is a parodied version of "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" from The Lion King (1994).
  • While the Horned King reflects upon his discussion with Avalina that involved her calling him beautiful, a parody of "Heaven's Light" plays in the narration.
  • The Invisibles' jokes about the Horned King being like a reindeer are references to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
  • Some of the riddles Avalina and the Horned King exchange are borrowed from a Deviantart user who ships the Horned King and Maleficient. The idea of the Horned King appreciating riddles is also from that user's stories.
