Brave New World adds several Shout-Outs that weren't there in the original game, to the point that the unlockme has an entire section detailing them. A third patch, named Vanilla New World removes most of these.
- One of the incorrect passwords in South Figaro is Wild Rosebud.
- The enemy Phase in Phoenix Cave is renamed Mu.
- The Rhobite enemies are renamed Rabite.
- The Crimson Robbers are renamed The Scorpion Gang.
- The Raven enemy found outside Narshe in the World of Balance has an attack called Nevermore.
- Edgar's airship line in the World of Balance is Hail to the King, Baby!.
- The chief guard of Figaro is named Julian. The Chancellor and Matron of Figaro are renamed Mikhail and Monica. Much of Julian's dialogue comes from the fan translation of that game

- The frog enemies are named after Frogger
- After the Guardian gets down to 0 HP, it sings Gato's song before dying. You even get 15 Magic Points for defeating it.
- The Rhinotaur is renamed Rhyhorn. Its upgraded version is named for Rhyhorn's evolutions Rhydon and Rhyperior.
- One of Mog's Dance moves is renamed Razor Leaf.
- The Lazy Shell can be obtained as a rare steal, having the same function it did in Mario's RPG debut.
- The item Red Bull adds the Float status in addition to healing 150 health. Red Bull gives you wings.
- The unlockme password is a reference to the infamous My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fanfic Cupcakes (Sergeant Sprinkles).
