• In one episode, Chris mentions that there's been "a complaint of rape." This is a reference to an episode of the same name from the 1982 documentary series Police, which showed how callously police officers dealt with rape victims.
• At various points, footage of George Dixon from Dixon of Dock Green is shown.
• An explanation of sorts is given for the real-life 1983 damage to the Blue Peter garden.
