Torn is a 2007 British miniseries produced for ITV.
This series contains examples of:
- The Alcoholic: Sarah, in the past. Stephen begins to show shades of this following Joanna's death.
- Chekhov's Gun: The DNA sample Sarah gives to confirm her relationship to Alice/Lori. The police later use it to identify Sarah as the person Joanna fought with shortly before her death.
- Death by Falling Over: How Joanna bites the dust.
- Missing Child: Sarah and David take their eyes off Alice for two seconds, and Joanna takes the little girl home with her.
- Police Are Useless: Averted. Sally listens to Sarah's concerns and suspicions, and follows up on them.
- The Reveal: Lori is Alice.
- Rich Sibling, Poor Sibling: Lori is kidnapped by the poor Joanna and is raised in relative poverty on a council estate and some less savoury acquaintances, although they are not a Lower-Class Lout and are shown to be extremely loving. In contrast, Lori/Alice's birth parents, are wealthy and raised their kids with the expectation of going to college.
