The Random Years is a sitcom that was broadcast on UPN in 2002. The show was about three young men- Alex Barnes (Will Friedle), Wiseman (Joshua Ackerman) and Todd Mitchell (Sean Murray)- childhood friends who share a loft in Chinatown, Manhattan, New York City, and are trying to navigate life and love after graduating college.
Seven episodes were produced; only four were aired.
The Random Years provides examples of:
- Actor Allusion: Alex dates a part-time stage magician in the episode "Dangerous Liaisons". In My Date with the President's Daughter, Will Friedle (Alex's actor) played a teen whose hobby was magic tricks.
- Dope Slap: Todd does this to Wiseman in "Men Behaving Sadly"
- Extreme Doormat: Alex is this with women.
- Hidden Depths: Despite being The Slacker, Todd can speak fluent French, and know enough about antiques that he can avoid becoming completely naked in "Strip Antique Road Show", and knows how to pick locks manufactured in the 1920's
