Queen of Tears (눈물의 여왕) is a Romantic Comedy Korean Drama which premiered in March 2024 on TvN. It is available on Netflix in selected regions.
Baek Hyun-woo (Kim Soo-hyun) is a legal director who is the son of farmers from a village who is married to Hong Hae-in (Kim Ji-won), a third-generation heiress of the conglomerate Queens Group. About to divorce after three years of marriage, Hae-in's cancer diagnosis miraculously rekindles the love that they once had for each other.
Queen of Tears provides examples of:
- Anguished Declaration of Love: Hae-in gives Hyun-woo one after waking up from an episode of brain swelling because of her cancer.Hae-in: I love you. I've loved you from the moment we met until now. I'm sorry that I didn't treat you better. I'm also sorry that I left you all alone with my family. I think a part of me already knew that you wanted a divorce. You put up with us for so long. So... it's okay. Don't feel bad.
Hyun-woo: What are you doing?
Hae-in: If I don't say these things before I die, you'll never know how I really feel. I'm telling you this now since I don't know when I'll die. - The Cameo: Vincenzo makes an appearance in Episode 8 as Hae-in's divorce lawyer.
- Internal Reveal: Episode 6 has the Hongs and Hae-in learn that Hyun-woo planned on divorcing her.
- Obnoxious In-Laws: The Hongs are one of the reasons Hyun-woo wants to divorce Hae-in, being a competent lawyer and legal director for Queens Group they constantly call on him to do whatever they need him to do while also looking down on him for his humble background. As a son-in-law he's expected to cook the food and make the preparations for the Hongs' grandmother's death anniversary rites along with all the other son-in-laws, who feel even worse for Hyun-woo because he's the son-in-law of the main line at that.
- The Reveal: Seul-hee is the mother of Eun-sung and the two have been plotting to take over Queens Group from the Hong family for years.
- Riches to Rags: After Eun-sung becomes chairman of Queens and Seul-hee has power of attorney over Man-dae while he's in a coma after she poisons him the Hongs have all their assets frozen. Hyun-woo takes them to Yongdu-ri to live with his family to avoid the press. Hae-in's mother tries to convince the villagers that they still have their money and it's only temporary.
- Uptown Girl: Hae-in, an heiress to a major conglomerate who married Hyun-woo who comes from a family of village farmers. Hyun-woo didn't know that she was wealthy until after he had proposed to her, thinking that she was an intern who would be fired soon and came from a poor background because he thought her vintage designer clothes were old and had holes in them.
