''Family Matters'' is a DomCom that aired from 1989 to 1998. Set in UsefulNotes/{{Chicago}}, it was originally conceived as a spin-off of ''Series/PerfectStrangers'' focusing on the [[DeadpanSnarker deadpan snarking]] elevator operator Harriette Winslow and her police officer husband, Carl, and introducing the rest of their middle-class family. It served as one of the anchors of Creator/{{ABC}}'s Franchise/{{TGIF}} block before moving to Creator/{{CBS}} in 1997 along with its sister series, ''Series/StepByStep''. It's notable for being one of the most successful shows that features a predominantly African American cast. It was also the last scripted live-action American primetime series that debuted in the 1980s to remain on the air; the only other scripted American show that debuted in the 1980s and is still in production is ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons''.
