Famalam is a British Sketch Show starring Samson Kayo, Vivienne Acheampong, John MacMillan, Tom Moutchi, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Akemnji Ndifornyen, Danielle Vitalis and Roxy Sternberg. The show is notable for starring majority Black Comedians. The show first aired in 2017 and has ran for 3 series (as well as 2 shorts and a highlight special).
This Show has the Following Tropes:
- 419 Scam: An early sketch has a student receive one of these from Prince Alyusi and deleting them. This trope is then Subverted when we see that the Nigerian Prince is real and genuinely needs help with the gold transfer.
- Black Dude Dies First: The first sketch of the series has a group of astronauts about to release an alien. One of them is concerned that he will get eaten first, since he is Black. Then we see that the rest of the group are also Black. One of them also point the lack of logic in an alien eating them in order of skin colour.
- Dating Service Disaster: The Nigerian Prince in the Pilot's attempt to find love results in him getting catfished.
- Running Gag: In the Pilot, a group of Black People performing music videos in impromptu places (like in the middle of a car dealership).
- Stylistic Suck: The films made by Fantastic Egusi Films, which have the characters imposed (very) poorly over the background. The commentary insists that the technology is state of the art however.
- Token Black: One sketch had Midsomer Murders seek to improve their diversity by taking on a Black Detective. However, the script reading (where the Black Person's sole role is for Barnaby to ask for his phone charger) suggests that this trope is in play.
