Misplaced Bilingualism:
- Pocahontas: The Native Americans, assuming they are talking to each other in English and it is not just Translation Convention. It is highly unlikely that the Native Americans knew English before the English settlers arrived.
- The Russians in The Hunt for Red October, assuming that they really are speaking English and not just translated Russian. There was no reason for them to learn English.

Minor Characters Are Monolingual
- Tarzan: Tarzan and the gorillas are fluent in both English and Ape, but Sabor the leopard is only ever shown speaking Leopard.
- Scarface (1983): Happens with most of the minor characters.
- Alberto the Shadow does not speak English.
- The assassins who break into Tony’s mansion also do not speak English.
- Most people at the refugee camp do not speak English.
