I Love Democracy is a completed election game in AlternateHistory.com set in an Alternate Universe of Star Wars where Sheev Palpatine, who in canon became the Emperor of the Galactic Empire, dies before he could assume the office of Chancellor while the Battle of Naboo sees the Trade Federation thwart Queen Amidala's attempt at reclaiming her home world. As a result of this, the players of the game have to navigate the turbulent storms of the Prequel-Era Republic and either try to save the Galactic Republic, help support the nascent Confederate movement as it grows from strength to strength, or spearhead the formation of the Galactic Empire. For anyone with an account at AlternateHistory.com, the game could be accessed here.

I Love Democracy contains examples of:

  • Asshole Victim: Darth Apollyon's plans for the galaxy involved mass genociding everyone who wasn't a devoted cultist to his cause in an attempt to become a god. Needless to say, few shed any tears when he was decapitated by Auphi Acio-Siadro during The Longest Night.
  • Better to Die than Be Killed: Nikolai Vesnek kills himself during the Vesnek Affair to avoid being arrested while Victinia Kandergraph and Domnhall Pienarr kill themselves during the Longest Night with Kandergraph killing herself out of a belief that she was doomed anyways while Pienarr blew himself up out of a belief that doing so would mean his mind was independent of Sith mind control.
  • Conspicuously Public Assassination: Awmaw Flen's assassination is this as he is gunned down in the middle of a rally by Jango Fett and Cad Bane.
  • Day of the Jackboot: The Longest Night ultimately ends up as this as Padme Amidala, despite the Sith both dying during said incident, consolidates her power during The Longest Night.
  • Emergency Authority: Chancellor Padme Amidala receives this at the start of the Clone War which allow the Chancellor to essentially rule by decree.
  • Fallen Hero: In addition to how Anakin Skywalker betrays the Jedi to save his wife, even if under very different circumstances than canon, Ashoka Tano follows her master into the service of Padme while Senators who started their political careers as committed to the principles of the Republic like Auphi Acio-Siadro, Theia Erin, and Linmela Corbark end up becoming pivotal in the formation of this world's Galactic Empire after The Longest Night.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: The game's take on Alsakan is heavily inspired by the Byzantine Empire in terms of its culture and general aesthetic.
  • Fictional Political Party: While political parties as such do not exist in the Galactic Senate, caucuses and political organizations like the Forum for a Democratic Republic, the Unity Movement, and the Commission for the Preservation of the Republic fill a similar role in the politics of the Senate.
  • Landslide Election: The elections of Nikolai Vesnek, Awmaw Flen, and Padme Amidala to the position of Supreme Chancellor are this with how all three win election on the first round of voting.
  • Love Makes You Evil: Linmela Corbark's Faceā€“Heel Turn was caused partially by the relationship she had developed with Auphi Acio-Siadro.
  • Old Soldier: Taken to its logical conclusion by how Low'ehr'enz is a veteran of the New Sith Wars, which took place over a thousand years before the events of the game. Justified by how Duinuogwuin like her could live for thousands of years.
  • Our Presidents Are Different: Of the Supreme Chancellors of the Republic, Andrian Dansion is a President Action with his actions against slavery and piracy along with the Liberation of Naboo, Nikolai Vesnek ends up being President Scandal with the Vesnek Affair (and how he commits suicide to avoid capture), Awmaw Flen is a combination of President Personable and Puppet King before becoming President Target with his assassination, while Padme Amidala starts out as President Personable but ends up becoming President Evil during the Clone War, culminating in becoming leader of the Galactic Empire.
  • Police State: The COIN Act essentially makes the Galactic Republic this during the Clone War.
  • Start of Darkness: Padme Amidala's turn towards Centrist political beliefs and how she sold her soul to the Sith, culminating in her becoming Empress of TTL's Galactic Empire, is triggered by the failure of the Jedi and the Senate to respond quickly or effectively until the election of Andrian Dansion.
    • Similarly, Auphi Acio-Siadro's shift from Ruusanism to Integralist Centrism is triggered by her having a major failure during the debate on Federalism with the radicalization it caused leading to her becoming an Integralist Centrist.
  • Wedding Finale: Auphi Acio-Siadro and Linmela Corbark get married in the aftermath of The Longest Night.
