- The sole female member of the Starjammers, Space Pirate allies of the X-Men, is an alien skunkgirl whose human boyfriend explicitly named her "Hepzibah" after the attractive lady skunk from the Pogo comics he enjoyed reading before he was abducted by aliens. Her own name is a complicated pheromone signal which few species outside of hers can replicate.
- A story in the Alan Moore run of Swamp Thing has expies of the Pogo cast show up as aliens fleeing from their now-ruined world, looking for sanctuary on Earth but finding none.

- Electra Glide in Blue: While Zipper is reading comic books, he offers Wintergreen an issue of Pogo.
- The Muppet Show featured some songs from the Pogo songbook, namely "Don't Sugar Me" and "Old Dog Trey". Jim Henson was a fan of the Pogo comics during his youth, and both of the songs mentioned were also featured on predecessor show Sam and Friends, along with other selections from the album Songs of the Pogo.
- The Simpsons: In one episode Homer refers to Ned Flanders as "Churchy La Femme", because of his religiosity and effemminate behavior.
