Music

  • Queen's "Bring Back That Leroy Brown" was written as a tribute to Croce following his death; the title and lyrics reference Croce's "Bad Bad Leroy Brown".
  • "Rock and Roll Heaven" by the Righteous Brothers imagines Croce with several other deceased musicians — including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, Jim Morrison, and Bobby Darin — in Heaven together forming "a hell of a band, band, band!"
  • "Weird Al" Yankovic references the chorus to "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" in "CNR" from Alpocalypse:
Cause you can spit in the wind or tug on Superman's cape, but Lord knows you just don't mess around with CNR

Video Games

  • Inscryption: Your game-master, Leshy, paraphrases Time in A Bottle during your very last match with him before he ends up deleted like everyone else.
There never seems to be enough time to do the things you want to do... once you've found them.

Western Animation

  • Ed, Edd n Eddy: One episode sees Eddy refer to his newest creation as "meaner than a junkyard dog," in reference to "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown."
  • Family Guy: When Peter is stealing steroid pills at Mort's pharmacy in Ready Willing and Disabled, the latter is singing "I Got a Name".
  • The Loud House: Luna Loud (a character prone to Waxing Lyrical) quotes "Operator (That's Not the Way it Feels)" in the episode "Friendzy."
