Recap / Zatch Bell Ep 3 The Second Spell

Go To

Zatch and Kiyo have unlocked a new spell, but Kiyo is worried about what kind of damage it might do. Not wanting to be bothered with Zatch's antics again today he decides to make him a new friend named Vulcan 300 out of a cardboard box and chopsticks and heads off to school. Unfortunately for Kiyo, Zatch follows him once again and the two eventually run into the pair that attempted to rob the bank the other day. After declaring his intent to kidnap Zatch for his own use the two teams decide to face off in another battle.

As the fight rages on more of the rival duo's past is revealed, with Hosokawa having met Reycom while making the rounds as a delivery man. After being fired from his job Reycom then suggests that Hosokawa try reading his book, which reveals an ability to shoot ice from his mouth in a similar way to Zatch's lightning. From there the two quickly became partners with Hosokawa using Reycom to steal and get even with those who wronged him and Reycom in turn using Hosokawa to grow more powerful. Disgusted by their motives Zatch and Kiyo defeat them both for good with their second spell, which causes Reycom's book to vanish... and Reycom along with it!

  • Attack Reflector: The titular second spell turns out to be a large shield that reflects an enemy's attack right back at them... with an additional electrical charge thrown in for good measure!
  • Bowdlerise: Once again Zatch's nudity is covered up by a pair of hastily added shorts.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Hosokawa was just a poor delivery man before be gained Reycom's ice powers. After that he became a master criminal that seeks to add Zatch's electric power to his arsenal by kidnapping him and stealing Kiyo's spellbook.
  • Kick the Dog: Just when it looked like Hosokawa couldn't get any lower he proudly boasts that he just sees Reycom as a tool to be used for his own gain and even calls the mamodo children freaks because of their strange powers.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Hosokawa has no problem attacking Zatch directly without even using spells and bluntly states that he just sees the momodo children as tools for him to use for his own benefit.
