Recap / Yu Gi Oh VRAINS Ep 118 Reckless Proposal

Go To

Playmaker and Ai's intense Final Battle continues. Playmaker parries Ai's attacks without taking any damage and launches his own counterattack, but Ai predicts his opponent's every move, knowing how his deck operates. With the feelings of the Ignis combined into one, Ai brings forth the might of the ultimate Cyberse monster.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • All Your Powers Combined: "The Arrival Cyberse @Ignister" harnesses the combined powers of all six Ignis (in the form of Ai's "@Ignister" monsters), granting it 1000 ATK per monster used for its Link Summon (for a total of 6000 ATK).
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Playmaker about to take a game-ending counter-attack from "The Arrival Cyberse".
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Twice:
    • Playmaker summons "Cyberse Clock Dragon" and boosts its attack to 7500 so he can end the duel in one turn, but Ai uses a spell card to negate the attack and summon the rest of his Extra Deck ace monsters to the field as set up for his LINK 6 summon.
    • Playmaker unintentionally sets himself up for defeat the moment he attempts to use "Quantum Dragon's" effect during battle to return "The Arrival Cyberse" to the Extra Deck, not knowing that the latter is unaffected by other card effects while it has a counter.
  • I Know You Know I Know: Ai has counter-strategies prepared for all of Playmaker's moves. As he points out, they spent two seasons dueling as a team, so naturally Ai would be quite familiar with the ins and outs of his deck.
  • Minimalist Cast: Compared to the other episodes, this episode only lists three named characters with voice lines; Yusaku/Playmaker, Ai, and Kusanagi.
  • Morton's Fork: Whether Playmaker wins and reclaims the consciousness data of those Ai and Roboppi defeated or Ai wins and his copies are created, Ai will cease to exist either way.
  • Secret Test: Ai brings out the 0 ATK "Darkwight @Ignister", which can't be targeted for attacks while linked, to test whether or not Playmaker will be able to take down "The Arrival Cyberse" and defeat his opponent.
  • Together in Death: Ai reveals to Playmaker that he'll be destroyed win or lose, either by having his free will divided amongst his copies or being deleted for losing. Regardless of the outcome, he wanted Playmaker to be there for it so they'd be together at the end.
  • Wham Shot: Ai summons "The Arrival Cyberse @Ignister", which is also the very first instance of Link Summoning a LINK-6 Link Monster.
