  • Adaptation-Induced Plot Hole: Zigzagged. Marik/Strings uses Infinite Cards just to boost Slifer's ATK to unnecessarily high levels in this episode and the next just to brag about how unbeateable it is. Surely, he must have drawn at least one card that could wipe out Yugi's defenses; a more powerful monsternote , a Spell Card that wipes out opponents' monsters, a card that could give Slifer piercing damage.... but he just stops playing other cards altogether after assembling his "five-card combo". This is because in the manga, Duelists are only allowed five cards in play at once regardless of type. Of course, that still begs the question of why he wasted a slot on Infinite Cards instead of something that could give him the win.
  • No Challenge Equals No Satisfaction: Joey refuses to duel against a no-name duelist because of his promise to Yugi that they'd have their post-Battle City duel so Joey can get his Red-Eyes Black Dragon back, choosing only to duel against strong duelists to prove that he's ready. In the English dub, this is changed to Joey wanting to uphold his reputation as the runner-up in Duelist Kingdom, even calling a random duelist a "lightweight."
