Knowing he has to destroy Weevil's cocoon before the creature inside can hatch and wipe him out, Yugi uses a Burning Land card to wipe out the forest surroundings, allowing Gaia the Fierce Knight to destroy it. However, the Great Moth, while not as strong as it would be, had evolved enough to survive. Its power puts Yugi at a severe disadvantage thanks to its poison, and even Gaia the Dragon Champion isn't enough to stop it. Mai ribbing on him and his friends doesn't help, but Yugi is able to turn the match around with Makiu the Magical Mist and Summoned Skull, which electrocutes the moth and wins him the game.
Defeated, Weevil gives Yugi his Star Chips and is shipped off the island, and Yugi and friends celebrate their first victory. Joey also takes his dueling glove.
This episode contains examples of:
- Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors: Fire attacks are effective against Weevil's forest, hence why Yami Yugi used his Burning Land Card to get rid of it.
- Fusion Dance: The first use of the Polymerization card fuses Gaia the Fierce Knight with Curse of Dragon, creating Gaia the Dragon Champion.
- Happy Rain: Yugi plays Makiu the Magical Mist, which not only counters Great Moth's poison spores, it also soaks the entire battlefield, making the moth a prime target for Summoned Skull's lightning attack.
- Hope Spot: Yugi is able to destroy the Cocoon of Evolution one turn early. While this does prevent Weevil from summoning his Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth, he's still allowed to summon his Great Moth, which is still a powerful card.
- Laser-Guided Karma: For throwing the parts of Exodia the Forbidden One away into the ocean, no wonder why it's satisfying Weevil has lost to Yugi. Not only did he lose, he's also one of the first losses in the entire tournament, he's disqualified because he agreed to a winner-takes-all match, and to add insult to injury, Joey takes his dueling glove for himself.
- Poison Is Evil: The Great Moth spreads poison around the field, causing Gaia the Dragon Champion to lose attack points. Makiu gets rid of them.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Yugi gives a short one to Weevil after beating him, when Weevil whines how he is the regional champion.

- Shock and Awe: Summoned Skull electrocutes Great Moth. The fact that the moth is wet makes it even more effective, since it raises Summon Skull's attack power by 1000 points.
