X-Men: Messiah Complex- Chapter Thirteen

X-Men Vol 2 #207 is Chapter Thirteen of Thirteen in the Messiah Complex event. It was written by Ed Brubaker, pencilled by Billy Tan, inked by Danny Miki and Allen Martinez, colored by Frank D’Armata, lettered by Chris Eliopoulos and edited by Nick Lowe It has a cover date of March 2008.
The battle on Muir Island rages on. Eventually Cable surrenders the Mutant Messiah to the X-Men. Cyclops decides to trust his son and entrusts the baby to Cable. In a desperate bid to kill it, Bishop shoots up by Cable teleports as he does so, leaving Professor X as the casualty. With Professor X dead, Cyclops formally disbands the X-Men.
Tropes:
- Calling Parents by Their Name: This seems to be a recurring trope under Ed Brubaker’s pen. Even though he is older than him, Cable refers to his father Cyclops as “Scott”.
- Subverted later, however.
Cable: Scott - - Dad - - Please don’t make me - -- Rogue calls her adoptive mother “Mystique” “Raven” and “Mother”.
- Laura yells Logan’s name when he is swallowed by Predator X.
- Chekhov's Gun: The New X-Men previously expressed a hunger to join their elders and avenge their fallen comrades and Cyclops finally officially gives them the chance.Cyclops: Negative. Sinister’s people know us inside and out. They’ve spent years training to face us. Let’s throw them something they won’t see coming.
- Healing Factor: Predator X cannot be killed from the outside and will heal from any injury instantly.
- Laser-Guided Karma: Rogue attempts to kill Mystique by fully absorbing. She stops midway. Too late she realizes that contact with the Mutant Messiah had removed all the consciousnesses she had previously absorbed and she undid that by trying to off Mystique.
- Nerves of Steel: Scott doesn’t flinch when Nathan has him at gunpoint and points out if he was gonna shoot him he would’ve done it already.
- Tears of Joy: Mystique sheds these when Rogue awakens from her coma.
- Ungrateful Bitch: Essentially the first thing Rogue does after waking up and learning what Mystique did to bring her back is attempt to kill her.
