Recap / Xiaolin Showdown Dream Stalker

Go To

A bizarre, yet dangerous, blue, fire-breathing jellyfish monster attacks Guan and the monks night after night, and yet Rai seems to miss out on the fights by sleeping throughout the battles! Once he awakens, the jellyfish mysteriously disappears. Is Rai truly responsible for this unusual creature, or is there an evil force bringing his nightmares to life?

Tropes

  • The Bus Came Back: The Sapphire Dragon returns after two seasons to be used by Hannibal Bean. The Shadow of Fear also returns after a 23-episode absence.
  • Call-Back: Rai's fear of jellyfish
  • "Eureka!" Moment:
    • Upon watching the video of the jellyfish monster attacking Jack and turning the Jackbots into sapphire statues, the Xiaolin Monks realize that the jellyfish is actually the Sapphire Dragon.
    • When the Monks discover that the Shadow of Fear has also been stolen, Master Monk Guan deduces that the cause jellyfish monster is Raimundo—or, more specifically, his nightmares (courtesy of Hannibal Bean using the Shadow of Fear, the Sapphire Dragon, and the Moby Morpher).
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: This episode confirms that the main reason for Rai's arrogant, jerkish behavior is of him being afraid of failing his friends.
  • Once an Episode: The "Jungle Judo" Cosmic Clash Showdown with Omi, Clay and Kimiko against the Sapphire Dragon and a Sapphire'd rhino and monkey, Omi's Orb of Tornami versus the Sapphire Dragon himself (as Omi points out, he is Wu and thus can wager himself) for the Shadow Slicer; first team to be thrown from the arena loses. Omi's team technically wins after Hannibal's defeat by Rai causes the Sapphire Dragon to revert back to its dormant state, thus freeing Omi (and the animals) from their Sapphire'd state.
  • Self-Duplication: The power of the Shadow Slicer; it creates an exact shadow copy of the user to fool opponents in battle or make a quick escape.
  • Ship Tease: While it's unknown if Kimiko feels the same way, this episode ultimately confirms that Raimundo has a crush on her—in fact, part of Raimundo's dream invovles him going on a movie date with Kimiko, even pulling a Yawn and Reach on her.
  • Wild Take: Upon first crossing paths with the jellyfish monster, Omi's entire head turns into an eyeball.
