The Brotherhood (minus Mystique) gatecrash the girls' championship soccer match (in which Jean's team is taking part) and threaten to expose mutantkind to the world.
Tropes included:
- Amnesia Missed a Spot: An entire sports stadium of people learn about the different mutants among them and their powers. To maintain their secret identities, Professor X tries to erase everyone's memory of the night, but blacks out before he can finish erasing Principal Kelly's mind. Principal Kelly later goes on to be very anti-mutant.
- Bus Full of Innocents: There’s a situation where a car is hanging over the side of a bridge which is about to fall on a school bus full of kids. Scott, Kitty and Kurt start arguing over whether or not to help, because they're afraid of revealing themselves. In the end they decide to help after seeing the car beginning to go over the edge. They end up saving the kids and the man in the car.
- Down to the Last Play: The episode opens with this trope, as the only goal we're shown in the soccer match is the winning one, scored by Jean, of course.
- Gonna Need More X: We are introduced to the New Mutants, and Wolverine notes, "We're definitely going to need more instructors. And maybe a couple of tanks."
- Kissing In A Tree: Pietro taunts Lance about his crush on Kitty by saying this but Lance interrupts it at the last minute, as he tries to backhand him but Pietro speeds out of the way and Toad gets hit instead.
