Alex's 15th birthday is coming and her mother is planning a traditional quinceañera, but when Alex learns Theresa is planning things the she wants, she refuses to go through with it, leaving her mother upset. When Alex learns from her visiting grandmother that Theresa never got to have a quinceañera when she turned 15, Alex uses a spell to switch bodies with her mother so Theresa can experience the quinceañera she always wanted.
Tropes
- Both Sides Have a Point: After Alex cancels her party because of the way Theresa is planning things, they both make valid points of neither are not being fair to each other. Theresa is right about how a lot of work was done into the party and how there are traditions in a quinceañera that should be followed, but Alex is right about how it technically is her party and how Theresa is making the party mostly about her. They compromise somewhat in the end, with Theresa allowing Alex to wear sneakers.
- "Freaky Friday" Flip:
- Alex uses a spell she learned in this episode to switch bodies with her mother so she can experience having a quinceanera she never got.
- In the beginning of the episode, Alex briefly switches bodies with her father after Jerry teaches the spell to her. She uses this to use his money to go shopping before Jerry stops her.
- Justin and Max switch bodies with their dance instructors Richard and Candace, so they will dance for them at the quinceañera, after their grandmother pulls them out of the class and says she will teach the dance for the party but forgot to do it.
- This episode originally aired as part of Disney Channel's "Seriously Switched-Up Sunday", which also featured the premiere of the Phineas and Ferb episode "Does This Duckbill Make Me Look Fat?", which had a similar body-swap plotline, as well as the channel premiere of Freaky Friday (2003).
- Freudian Excuse: The reason Theresa is making Alex's party the she wants it to be is because she never had one of her own when she was 15.
