A painting by a renowned artist has been stolen from a private home. Turns out it was stolen once before.
Tropes:
- Car Radio Dispute: During a stakeout, Neal and Peter argue over the car radio: Neal wants to listen to music while Peter wants to listen to a game.
- Identical Grandson: The current owner of the painting looks exactly like the former owner, her grandmother, who also happened to have been the subject of the painting.
- Revealing Injury: Joshua’s face is notably bruised, showing that he is the burglar who attacked Juliana and got punched by her.
- Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Neal, of course. When he learns that the painting was stolen from the original owner, who stole it back, he forges a copy to give to the "official" owners.
- True Art Is Incomprehensible: At the museum, Peter is put off by what he calls a “bag of laundry”, and is baffled when Neal scolds him for this and informs him that it has been sold for $120,000.
- "X" Marks the Spot: At the meeting point Kate informed Neal about, Neal discovers an additional message hidden under an “X” on a bridge pier in the vicinity.
