Recap / What If The World Knew Daredevil Was Blind

Go To

It's a common in-universe misconception that Daredevil is sighted; after all, a vigilante being a really good Badass Normal is just more likely than the vigilante having a Disability Superpower that allows him to navigate the world as if he weren't blind. So, what if that weren't the case? What if everyone knew Daredevil was a blind man?

In an alternate universe, when Daredevil fought Electro along with Spider-Man, Electro tried to use a flare against them... which obviously didn't work. Daredevil tried to come up with a good excuse, but was foiled when Spidey asked him what color Electro's costume was. Daredevil's inability to answer let the cat out of the bag. Spider-Man didn't tell, but Electro outed Daredevil as being blind to the Daily Bugle.

Daredevil continues to fight crime, but after the Owl exploits his lack of sight to nearly win, Matt decides to get his sight back through a radical surgery. Due to typical superhero circumstances around the fight, he loses his heightened senses, but retains his ability to see.

After returning to New York and defeating the Owl again, Matt outs himself as Daredevil and decides to retire the identity, instead helping the city in his civilian identity by running for district attorney.

What If... the World Knew Daredevil Was a Troper?

  • Armor-Piercing Question: Electro confirms his theory that Daredevil is blind by asking the Man Without Fear what color his costume is; Daredevil's radar sense doesn't compensate for color vision, so he can't respond.
  • Badass Normal: Even without his powers, Daredevil can beat the Owl.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Matt loses his superpowers and decides to help the city as a civilian.
  • Radiation-Induced Superpowers: Inverted. A large dose of radiation took away Daredevil's super senses, but didn't touch his newfound sight or give him cancer.
