When Lillian's cat Napoleon begins talking, the girls take a trip to Kandrakar for answers. Luba reveals Lillian may well be the Heart of Earth, the source of its mystic energy, and this puts a target on the Guardian of Earth's sister...
The episode contains the following tropes:
- And Your Little Dog, Too!: Lillian being the Heart of Earth comes with the chilling realization that this makes her a target for Nerissa. Sure, enough while the girls are on Kandrakar, "Cornelia" comes to comfort her sister.
- Nerissa: Petty insults will hardly protect your sister. I will be back.
- Badass Boast: Matt delivers an epic one to Nerissa after leading her to believe he's become Shagon again.
- Matt: We're the Regents of Earth! And you're trespassing on our mistress' turf!
- Bait-and-Switch: When Matt shows up in Shagon form, he at first trolls Nerissa by talking like he's gone evil again... then eye-blasts her.
- The Chooser of the One:
- After initially assuming Yan Lin to have been the one to select them, it's revealed to the girls the Oracle was actually the one who handpicked the Guardians. Hay Lin was indeed picked because she is the granddaughter of the previous Guardian of Air, to "provide a continuity of spirit". Cornelia was chosen so she would be in position to properly guide Lillian in her role as Heart of Earth. Despite their eager questioning, why Will, Irma and Taranee were chosen is unrevealed.
- As well as this, as Cornelia encourages her to give up her power, Lillian sarcastically asks if she's meant to give it to Cornelia. Cornelia says she doesn't want the power, and suggests her "Knights": Matt, Huggles and Napoleon.
- Depower: Knowing the danger Lillian presents, the power of a mystic Heart in the hands of a child, Cornelia encourages her sister to choose regents to wield her power until she is older.
- Distaff Counterpart: Lampshaded. Will points out that Matt, now with a transformed form powered by a mystic Heart, is essentially a male Guardian.
- Dragons Are Demonic: When a dragon is added to the story, Lillian resists the suggestion that it be a nice dragon and insists that it be Nerissa's dragon.
- Evil-Detecting Dog: Huggles's reaction to "Cornelia" is what tips Matt off that she is actually a glamoured Nerissa.
- Fairy Tale: The bedtime story Matt comes up with follows the codes and conventions of a typical fairy tale. The girls as the good fairies, Lillian as the innocent princess, Nerissa as the evil sorceress complete with a fire-breathing dragon, and her mind-controlled ex-Guardians as evil fairies.
- Familiar: After Lillian unknowingly makes Napoleon the cat a Talking Animal near the beginning of the episode, he identifies himself to the Guardians as her familiar.
- The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: Cornelia's attitude towards Lillian.
- Cornelia: No one messes with my sister but me!
- Pet the Dog: After the girls leave to Kandrakar for some answers about Lillian, she arrives and sadly believed her sister ditched her for her friends. But Matt comforts her reminding her she still has him, Mr. Huggles and Napoleon to accompany her.
- Power Source: When explaining his reassumed Shagon form, Matt says he no longer feeds on hatred. Just Lillian's power.
- The Reveal: The major reveal of the episode is that Lillian is actually the Heart of Earth. On a smaller note, it's revealed that each of the girls was selected to become a Guardian for a specific reason, Cornelia so she would have the skill and knowledge to guide her sister.
- Rewriting Reality: The bedtime story Matt is telling Lillian becomes true simply because she wishes it. The building the Hales' apartment is in becomes a massive glamour zone. To outsiders all looks normal, but upon entering the building becomes a medieval castle where everything that happens in the story comes true.
- Shapeshifter Mode Lock: Played with. Matt can freely switch between his regular human form and the one he takes with Lillian's power. However, it seems his transformation as Shagon has locked him into transforming into that specific form regardless of where his power is stemming from.
- Took a Level in Badass: After becoming the Regents of Earth, Matt, Huggles and Napoleon each become superpowered. Matt and Huggles reassume their Shagon and Khor forms, although maintaining control. Napoleon becomes a Cat Folk. Matt was trained by Caleb before he became a Regent, so his case is more of an Empowered Badass Normal.
