"You're gonna be flying ships much faster and more maneuverable than this one."

"To any beings who receive this message, Planet Earth has been overrun by the Galra. Most of the citizens have been captured. Those of us remaining are making our last stand. If you get this message, please get word to Voltron. We need help."
Sam Holt

As Voltron approaches Earth, Pidge picks up a distress signal from her father announcing that the Galra have invaded the planet and many humans are about to mount a Last Stand. Cue flashbacks to four years earlier.

Sam awakens in the Galaxy Garrison's custody and is reunited with his wife Colleen. He presents his experiences to the Garrison highers-up and insists that the public be informed about the possibility of a Galra attack. While the Garrison denies this request, Iverson does tell Sam that they have been analyzing the Altean and Galran ships the paladins left behind, and introduces him to the Garrison's top cadets — Griffin (the student who antagonized Keith in their childhood), Rizavi, Kinkade, and Leifsdottir. Sam pushes for covertly upgrading Earth's defenses using what he learned from the Galrans, Alteans, and Olkari.

A year later, Matt contacts Sam and informs him of Voltron's disappearance and the resulting purge of the Voltron Coalition. He implores Sam to stop broadcasting to avoid being seen as a target of The Purge. When Admiral Sanda continues to disallow this information from going public, Sam and Colleen broadcast the news themselves. A furious Sanda orders that the Holts be locked up, but it appears that the public is willing to extend support to the Garrison.

Some time later, Sam and Griffin are testing the new particle barrier when they pick up an alien signal. It's the Galra, and they're attacking...

Tropes:

  • Beehive Barrier: The particle barrier Sam develops is an orange dome made out of High-Tech Hexagons. He took a page from the alien tech he was exposed to.
  • Cry into Chest: Colleen cries into Sam's chest when they are reunited.
  • A Day in the Limelight: An episode that focuses on Sam Holt and the Galaxy Garrison, used to tell the Earth side of things.
  • Do Not Adjust Your Set: A heroic example. Sam and Colleen hijack "every channel" in the world to announce the truth of the Kerberos mission, the Galra, and Voltron.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: How Colleen decides to release a live video of her and her husband telling the world that the Garrison was keeping secrets from them.
  • Unfinished, Untested, Used Anyway: Diagnostics hadn't been run on the particle barrier, but it's activated when the Galra invade.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: This episode details what happened following Sam Holt's return to Earth in season five, leading up to the alien invasion that happened during the timeskip.
  • The World Is Not Ready: Admiral Sanda doesn't want to broadcast Sam's findings to the world because it would set off a mass panic. Subverted when the Holts share the truth anyway, and people around the world start calling in to ask how they can help.
