- Human Sacrifice: Nine humans get sacrificed at the ritual. At first, Athelstan was supposed to be one of them, but after the Seer tells that the gods would be displeased with it, Leif takes his place.
- Moment of Silence: There is no sound except a woman singing during the scene of the human sacrifices.
- MushroomSamba: Rollo gives Athelstan some special mushrooms on the evening before the sacrifice.
- Rule of Three: The godi (Norse priest) asks Athelstan three times to deny that he still believes in the Christian god.
