Earl Haraldson orders an attack on Ragnar's farm.
Tropes:
- Arranged Marriage: The Earl's daughter is forced to marry a much older man from Svealand.
- Big Brother Instinct: Little brother in this case. Ragnar fumes with Tranquil Fury after he finds out that Earl Haraldson tortured Rollo, and wants to challenge him to a duel.
- Cold-Blooded Torture: Earl Haraldson tortures Rollo by slicing his face with a dagger because he will not tell where Ragnar is.
- Hollywood Healing: Averted. It takes Ragnar several months to recover from an arrow wound to the shoulder and a deep sword cut to the left leg, and even with Floki's help he's still painfully limping in this episode and the next.
- No Escape but Down: Two of Haraldson's men manage to drive Ragnar into a corner at the top of the fjord, but Ragnar simply lets himself fall into the water below, making them believe that he might have drowned.
- Three-Way Sex: Thorstein accepts Floki's invitation to have sex with Helga and him.
- Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Ragnar gets hit by an arrow that one of Haraldson's men shoots at him during the attack on Ragnar's farm. While he is seriously injured, Ragnar pretends to be on the verge of passing out and then attacks them when they are caught off guard, managing to escape.
