Unicorn's quest to fix Copernicus leads them into a blood war for control over Edred's homeland.
Tropes:
- Arranged Marriage: Edred is revealed to have been meant to be in one in his first life; he was supposed to marry a lady of the Eastern Realm elves, but he couldn't go through with it and gave up everything for Melinda. This causes a centuries long war between the two realm, causing all sorts of issues when he returns with Unicorn.
- Calling the Old Man Out: Emma, through the reflection on Copernicus, calls out Merlin for harboring so much blame for Melinda for accidentally killing Morgan and creating the Evil, despite her only being a child at the time. When Emma points out that he, the most powerful wizard of all time, couldn't stop it himself, he has a My God, What Have I Done? moment and apologizes to his daughter.
- Take a Third Option: After defeating the Eastern Elves and taking back the Heart of the Forest, Edred is torn between his oath to become king of the Elven kingdom and continue the Unbroken Line and his oath to fight the Evil. His solution? Have his brother Aelwulf take over his old body and assume his identity while Edred leaves the forest, unable to ever return again.
