Recap / Undead Unluck Negator War Arc

Go To

With Void having been successfully recruited, the next goal is to retrieve the reward from his quest, the artifact remember. However, its location is in the thick of a warzone which also happened to be where the negators who previously formed under are currently fighting. As such, the Union needs a bit more members to win the "Negator War."

Tropes:

  • A Day In The Lime Light: Several of the negators that joined Under (Sean, Yusai, Billy, Tella, & Creed) in the previous loop get the opportunity to explore their backstories.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: When it appears Nico is going to die thanks to Unluck, Ichico becomes enraged when he gives up to keep the other members from being harmed. She's extremely happy after they figure out a way to save him and hugs him after he's safe.
  • Call-Back: Rip in the Autumn arc mentioned Creed is part of Under to take over the world's nations. This arc reveals what likely motivated that desire was him and a squad of New Meat being left to die in a war zone for the sake of securing Disc.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Attempted by Nico but defied thanks to the efforts of the Union. Thanks to "Nostalgia Bullet" Nico was infused with Unluck and is being followed by Disc. Not wanting for him to die, Ichico accidentally separates him from his body with a punch which gives Fuuko the idea for him to draw Disc away in his astral form since Unluck only targets the soul. They only need to move his body out of the way.
  • In Spite of a Nail: During the Union's capture of Sean Datz, it's stated that he gained his powers earlier than the previous loop. While she attributes this to his soul reaching out to them, the true cause for the differences are unknown.
  • The Kindnapper: Fuuko has a need for a certain negator's invisibility (Sean) who is unwilling and understandably freaked out by the Union. Although in Sean's case, Fuuko admits why she has to recruit him is because Sean at this point isn't as mired in gang life as his original counterpart was and thus can still be reasoned with. As the narration also notes, him at this stage not being completely corrupted by gang life to still remember his father is what allows him to evolve Unseen.
  • Recruitment by Rescue: Zig-Zagged Trope. While they would have lived through the war over Disc, the events at the battlefield would lead to Billy, Tella, and Creed forming Under, so the Union intervenes pull their forces out including the other soldiers.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Attempted. Fuuko wants to prevent Billy's tragedy, even if it means that he won't become Unfair, depriving the Union of a powerful negator. Thankfully, he unlocks his powers with new conditions that mean he won't have to become their enemy.
  • Single-Stroke Battle: Billy challenges Fuuko when she asks him to join the Union. If he wins, his team walks away with Disc and if she wins they join. All either needs to do is shoot the other, although being the challenger he restricts himself to hitting her ear. Unbeknownst to either, Fuuko coming into contact with Disc triggered what would be called "Nostalgia Bullet" giving her the opening to hit him in the shoulder while he unlocks Unfair with new conditions, leaving him unable draw his pistol due to Undraw.
  • Superior Successor: Both Billy and Sean get better versions of their negator powers albeit in different ways. Unseen can allow Sean to turn any of his friends invisible and Unfair's conditions changed to only needing Billy to acknowledge the negator's strength instead of them seeing him as an enemy.
  • The Reveal: Billy's shooting ability is due to his skill and not any negator powers.
  • Threatening Mediator: The Union serves this role during the battle for Disc. No one fighting knows the first thing about them, but they only move to capture Disc, disable their weapons, rescue the soldiers, and recruit the Under negators without seriously harming either side.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: As previously stated, Negators (at least the original ones) are fated to get their powers even if circumstances surrounding their past changes. Fuuko even was willing to prevent Billy from becoming Unfair if it meant averting his betrayal, but he still became a negator regardless. However, there are factors that can change concerning their abilities and activation requirements from their original counterparts, such as Sean's ability being able to render other people invisible and Billy's activation requirement for Unfair completely changing due to Fuuko's interference.
