This is the chair. I can't believe this day has come. Watch right here.

"It was something like no one has ever seen before. I've never seen anything like it. I've never read anything like it. You don't know. You weren't there."
—William Hastings

Written by Mark Frost and David Lynch.

Directed by David Lynch.

Airdate: July 8, 2017.

Not to be confused with This Is My Chair or This is a Chair.

The episode opens with the resurrected Cooper doppelgänger walking down a dirt lane. He stops to pull a red bandana off of a fence post.

Deputy Director Gordon Cole, Agent Tammy Preston, Agent Albert Rosenfield, and Diane Evans, are flying over East South Dakota on an FBI returning from Yankton, South Dakota. Gordon receives a phone call from Colonel Davis at the Pentagon asking them to meet Lieutenant Knox at the Buckhorn Police Department.

Evil Coop meets Hutch and Chantal, who have been waiting for him as instructed. Hutch says the owners of this farm are sleeping out back. Chantal gets the kit to see to Cooper's doppelgänger's gunshot wound and Hutch gets clean cell phones and weapons.

Gordon lets Diane and the pilot know that they are taking a detour to Buckhorn, South Dakota. Diane sighs when she gets a blocked message on her cell phone. Gordon then gets a call from Warden Murphy, informing him that Cooper escaped.

Tropes appearing in this episode:

  • Actor Allusion: Tammy gets a cup of coffee for Gordon, who is played by David Lynch. Lynch has said he drinks 20 cups of coffee a day, and he developed his own signature blend.
  • Back from the Dead: Mr.C.
  • Blood Is the New Black: The Cooper doppelgänger is still covered in his own blood at the start of the episode.
  • Breather Episode: While not exactly Lighter and Softer, this part is relatively low-key. After the Nightmare Fuel Mind Screw of the previous part, it was certainly welcome.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Albert beats Diane to the punch when she sees him wake up on the plane.
Albert: I know. I know. Fuck you, Albert.
  • Catchphrase: Diane's "Fuck you, <name>."
  • Establishing Shot: The FBI jet flying through the sky above a river winding through hills.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Observant viewers noted that the windows of the FBI jet seem to disappear and reappear in a pattern, suggesting a coded message.
  • I Call It "Vera": Hutch calls guns "puppies and biscuits".
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: When Gordon informs Diane about the detour to Buckhorn, she shows him her empty mini-bottles. Gordon says "coming up".
  • No Communities Were Harmed: We return to Buckhorn, South Dakota, and to Twin Peaks, Washington.
  • The Problem with Pen Island: Gordon admonishes the colonel for his language before realizing that Buckhorn is a location.
  • Rule of Three: The trio of Las Vegas detectives that take down Ike the Spike. There are also the teams of Hawk/Truman/Bobby and Gordon/Albert/Diane with their respective storylines.
  • Running Gag: Tammy reminds Gordon to try to keep his voice down because of the sleeping Diane and Albert, and Gordon shouts, "What?"
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: Albert to Diane: "I know, I know, fuck you, Albert". Then later Albert engages in some inappropriate snarky banter with Constance at the morgue, after which the former gives the latter a half-amused smirk.
  • Teleporter Accident: What happened to both Ruth Davenport and Major Garland Briggs in "the Zone"
  • That One Case: Gordon confirms to Diane that the detour to Buckhorn relates to a Blue Rose case.
  • Wrecked Weapon: When Coopelganger asks Hutch for something for his revolver, Hutch quickly looks at the revolver, and says, "Well, fuck that. I'll get you some really nice puppies and biscuits." It is unclear if Hutch does not have appropriate ammunition or if Ray sabotaged the revolver so that it could not be repaired.
