Obsidian has grown very weak since the girls and boys broke the Sacred Altar, causing magic to disappear. If a new tree stump to replace the old one isn't found and placed before sunrise, she and the other Ancients will die. The girls and boys start to argue over whose fault it was before realizing they don't have time when lives are at stake. Alabaster leads the group to his house—his very rich father owns a construction company, and they can use his high-tech equipment to find a tree that meets all the requirements.
The group sets out, but when they find the proper tree they run into a Cyclops! Without any magic at all, even the Magic of the Five, it seems hopeless at first, but they manage to distract him enough to find the right tree, cut it down, uproot the stump, and use a crane to carry the beast away. The girls and boys rush to the Amber Caves and place the new tree stump, but it seems they were too late... until magic is slowly restored to the city. The boys apologize for being jealous, while the girls apologize for lording over them with magic. Everyone, especially Amethyst, is relieved that the Ancients are all right.
