Gwen refuses to be pressured into choosing an ice cream flavor that she does not want.

- All for Nothing: After continuing to play the quiet game for 78 years, Gwen ends up winning because of Cody dying of old age. After trying some of the tiger tail ice cream, she decides that she actually likes chocolate (the flavor everyone else wanted) better. This gets lampshaded by Courtney:Courtney: We hung around 78 years for nothing?!
- Anyone Can Die: Cody dies in the end.
- Break the Cutie: Izzy shattered Cody's world by telling him about horses being made into glue.
- Down to the Last Play: The contest came down to the final two, Gwen and Cody.
- Flash Forward: The episode ends 78 years in the future where Cody dies of old age; Bridgette, Chef, Courtney, Gwen and Owen are now elderly and Chef has finished his Ph.D. in education, wrote two novels and hand built his own dream boat.
- Gainax Ending: Gwen and Cody see who can go the longest without talking. The winner gets to choose their own ice cream flavor. This goes on for 78 years, until they're old people in the hospital. Cody dies of a heart attack and with his last breath, he moans in pain, winning Gwen the competition.
- Hipster: Gwen doesn't like any "normal kid stuff". In fact, the only reason she likes Tiger Tail ice cream is specifically because everyone else hates it.
- Mythology Gag: When the characters are show in old person form, they are given the same character bases as their teenage selves from the original series. All that's different is their hair is recolored white and some wrinkles are slapped onto them, apart from Bridgette who has a different hairstyle and outfit. They all also have the same voices as their original selves. Even Gwen.
- Tastes Like Purple: Tiger tail is said to be made of orange flavor ice cream and black. note
- What Happened to the Mouse?: Beth, Duncan, Harold, Izzy, Jude, Leshawna and Noah are all missing from the flash forward ending. Because of Cody dying of old age, it could be implied that they too have all died beforehand. That, or they simply got tired of waiting for the two to end the contest and moved on. If Chef is still alive, these seven could be too.
