Recap / Tiny Toon Adventures S 1 E 32 Spring In ACME Acres

Go To

The thirty-second episode of Tiny Toon Adventures.

It's springtime in ACME Acres, and there are three tales of the season in question.

Short One: "Love Among the Toons"

Elmer Fudd, as Cupid, gets tired of his job and hires Concord Condor to take his place. Concord proves incompetent, however, and Elmer has to help fix the mistakes that Concord has made.

Short Two: "Elmyra's Spring Cleaning"

Elmyra is overzealous in cleaning her house.

Short Three: "That's Incredibly Stupid"

Plucky and Dizzy compete on a game show where they have to perform dangerous stunts. Plucky tricks Dizzy into doing the first two stunts, but is then beaten up in the final stunt, which is judging a beauty competition.

This episode provides examples of:

Overall:

  • Credits Gag: Today's L.A. weather - Hot and Smoggy.
  • Foreboding Fleeing Flock: In the second wraparound, as Buster cleans Babs' burrow, Plucky, Dizzy, Furrball, Gogo, and Hamton all run past him. Buster asks them what's going on, and Hamton tells him that Elmyra's cleaning her house. Upon hearing this, Buster runs away with them.
  • Three Shorts

Love Among the Toons:

  • Cupid's Arrow: Elmer hires Concord to take his place as he gets tired of his job as Cupid. Concord proves incompetent by pairing up the Tiny Toons cast with the wrong matches (one example being Babs falling for Montana Max), causing God to force Elmer to step in and fix things.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Concord Condor.
  • The Hunter Becomes the Hunted: Calamity Coyote ends up getting chased by Little Beeper when Concord shoots the latter with an arrow.
  • Interspecies Romance: Monty has a brief romance with Babs as the result of Concord taking over Elmer's job. Among the other couples Concord tried to pair were Hamton and Elmyra, Calamity Coyote and Little Beeper, and Bookworm and an Elephant.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: For tricking Concord into taking over for him, God forces Elmer to fix the mistakes that Concord made.
  • Medium-Shift Gag: Though not really animated, we see clay model versions of the toons through a ViewMaster when God shows Elmer what happened to everyone in ACME Acres.
  • Shout-Out: Elmer as Cupid is a nod to the Looney Tunes short "The Stupid Cupid".
  • Watch Where You're Going!: Thanks to Concord taking over for Elmer, Monty and Babs get hit by Cupid's arrows. They do a Meadow Run but don't stop and smack into each other.

Elmyra's Spring Cleaning:

  • Driven to Suicide: Unable to find more water, Elmyra's pet goldfish digs his own grave and looks sadly at a picture of his wife and kids. He jumps in and buries himself just as his wish for more water is granted when Elmyra's vacuum explodes from sucking up too much water from her sink.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: For draining her pet goldfish's bowl of its water and denying him more water, as well as torturing her various pets, Elmyra has her vacuum explode from sucking up too much water from her sink, and her pet goldfish squirts water in her face.
  • No-Dialogue Episode: Much of the short is this, to the music of Johann Strauss' Tales from Vienna Woods.
  • Removable Shell: Tyrone's shell is revealed to be this when he puts it on and tries to escape from Elmyra's house.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When Elmyra sucks up some of her smaller pets in her vacuum cleaner, Furrball and Concord run out of Elmyra's house, as do a few of the other pets.
  • Temporary Bulk Change: Elmyra's pet goldfish gets fat from eating the salted peanuts Elmyra feeds him. He's back to his normal weight in the next scene, when he looks for some water.
  • Trash the Set: When Elmyra's vacuum cleaner is set to the SUPER APOCALYPSE OVERDRIVE setting, she ends up inadvertently tearing her house apart, as well as sucking up a tree and Dizzy's doghouse.
  • Wraparound Background: Used when Elmyra vacuums her carpet and cuts it up with scissors when it gets stuck, and when her pet goldfish tries to tell her that he needs water.

That's Incredibly Stupid:

  • Amazonian Beauty: The beauty pageant contestants turn out to be female bodybuilders.
  • Big Ball of Violence: Plucky gets caught in one of these as a result of being unable to decide who the winner of the beauty pageant is.
  • Growing Muscles Sequence: At first, the contestants of the beauty pageant seem like your average Ms. Fanservice-types, with Impossible Hourglass Figure. Then they flex, and instantly grow muscular bodies while keeping their gorgeous faces.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: For playing sick and having Dizzy do the first two dangerous stunts for him, Plucky gets beaten up by the pageant girls when he can't decide on a winner, and loses the grand prize of $100,000.00.
  • Match In A Bombshack: When Plucky tricks Dizzy into looking for the needle in the haystack for him after finding dynamite within the haystack, Biff Blasday decides to turn off the lights to make things more interesting. Plucky asks him, "Well, how's he supposed to see in there? Light a crummy match?". Dizzy does so, causing the dynamite to explode. He and Plucky still win the challenge when Plucky finds the needle now lodged in Dizzy's butt.
  • Playing Sick: Plucky does this to get out of doing the dangerous stunts that he makes Dizzy do.
  • Rule of Three: Three challenges are shown in this short; In the first challenge, the contestant must last for five minutes in a demolition derby, with only a helmet, roller skates, and an inner tube. In the second, the contestant must find a needle in a dark building filled with boxes of fireworks hidden under haystacks, and in the third, the contestant must judge a beauty contest where all the pageant girls are muscular.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Dizzy refuses to do the third challenge after he gets blown up by dynamite and gets the needle lodged in his butt in the second challenge.
  • Sore Loser: Surrounded by muscular, violent ladies in a beauty pageant, Plucky randomly chooses one. The other three proceed to pound Plucky silly to force him to change his answer, getting the initial pick involved as well...
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After all the abuse he suffers in the first two challenges, Dizzy gets the judge button as a consolation prize. He's satisfied, especially since Plucky is getting beat up by pageant girls.
  • Title Drop: Used many times in this short.
  • With Friends Like These...: Plucky has his "good friend" Dizzy risk life and limb in his place and intends to keep the prize money for himself.
