The Third Polaroid
It's Alex's birthday and his parents decide to throw a party at the local bowling alley. His friends are all invited; Jessica, Tyler, Zach and Clay. However, before the party, Alex upsets Jessica by calling Bryce a rapist. Jessica decides to forgive him and attends the miserable party. When Tyler shows up, Jessica and Zach try to stop him from coming in and turn him away at the door. The resulting drama leads Alex to have a public meltdown. He's frustrated with his memory not returning quickly enough and his limitations with his own body are putting his relationship with Jessica on hold. Jessica, surprisingly tells Alex that she's fed up with Alex feeling sorry for himself. When she leaves, Alex begins to remember the people he would have left behind if his suicide had been successful. Alex realises that he actually did want Tyler at the party but doesn't have the chance to let him know.
Tyler is already left feeling rejected and facetimes Cyrus. He tells him that he wants to get revenge on Zach, another popular guy who he feels needs to be taught a lesson. Tyler and Cyrus have already been successfully blackmailing Marcus with footage of him in the clubhouse getting a lapdance. Marcus is to come to the school wearing a dress or the whole school will be sent the damning footage. Marcus arrives at the school pep rally wearing a cheerleading outfit and, much to Tyler and Cyrus' annoyance, the crowd find it highly amusing.
Clay is now taking the stand at the trial. He tells them about the time he asked Jeff Atkins for dating advice before he died. Jeff held a small party, inviting Clay, Hannah, Sheri and Jeff's girlfriend, Leah. The group take molly and whilst high, Hannah and Clay share a moment where they discuss the infinite power of love. The next day, the group are shown to be on their comedown from the drugs. Hannah asks the others if they've ever wanted to die. The school lawyer, Sonya then skews Clay's story, saying that everyone knew of Hannah's suicidal thoughts, including Clay but no one did anything to help her. Sonya doesn't give Clay the chance to tell the court that Hannah had been raped and this had mostly lead to what caused her to end her own life.
Olivia and Andy appear to be trying to mend their relationship. Andy has begun to come to court to support Olivia during the trial. They visit Hannah's grave, talking about happy they had once been. Over lunch, Andy tells Olivia that he wants to finalise their divorce. Olivia is devastated and asks if it's because he wants to marry his new girlfriend, Vanessa. Andy replies that he wants to close a door that he never wants to walk through again.
Meanwhile, Clay is not having any luck in getting anyone to help with Hannah's case or Jessica's against Bryce. Justin has been taken in as a second child at Clay's house, despite Clay only letting him stay to testify. Bryce is still seen coercing his girlfriend, Chloe into having sex despite her reluctance. Clay decides the only way to get people to pay attention is by releasing Hannah's tapes to the public. Hannah's ghost begs him not to, making it clear that the tapes were not meant for revenge, only to tell her story how she wanted it told. Clay goes ahead and makes the tapes live.
