The group journeys to the final resting place of their friends for answers, and have a brief encounter with the Night Reaper, whose own motives are left a mystery. Inspecting the graves leads to a booby-trapped epitaph that appears to be a trap specifically for Kapnos, as it was written in his native language, which nobody else in Ravenloft knows...save for what he's taught his gracious host. Rushing back to Barovia, they find Sophia's house locked and presumably abandoned, leading to an overly intricate (but successful) plan to break in. Then, as they notice missing tomes on resurrection and piece together what Sophia's likely planning, a stranger knocks at their door...
  • Buried Alive: When Ray is investigating Sumer's disturbed grave, he's able to see frantic talon marks at the bottom, making the party question if Sumer had simply been in a state of near-death during the fight against Zaro and they had accidentally assumed the worst.
  • Chimney Entry: In order to break into Sophia's locked house, the party boosts Kapnos and Brand onto the roof. Brand then becomes "a slippery Ork" to fit through the chimney, though the furnace was left on and it does burn him a tad.
  • Dimensional Cutter: Rather than answer the party's queries when they spot it by the graves, the Pale Rider uses its scythe to cut a rift to the Pumpkin King's ghost town that seals behind it. This alarms Brand, as he worried the Rider is the figure from his dreams (despite using a scythe instead of a staff), and could potentially make a rift out of Ravenloft to go and slaughter his family.
  • Double Meaning: During their investigation of Sumer's grave, Kapnos suddenly realizes that the Pumpkin King's request to let him know about giant ravens might have been one; not only have larger-than-average ravens been spying on them on behalf of some organization, but also, Sumer is a raven Kenku whose body is now missing from its grave. And then, as revealed early into the next episode, the stranger that's looking for Sophia turns out to be a were-raven, also fitting the request.
  • Kleptomaniac Hero: After breaking into Sophia's home, but before unlocking the door for the others, Brand takes a moment to steal one of Sophia's trinkets as a prize. This leads to some hilarity when the trinket is revealed to be a werewolf claw, and the party (unaware of Brand's thievery) start questioning if Sophia's current whereabouts involve the Werewolf Alpha.
  • Recurring Dreams: The nightmare that Brand had before ends up happening again, but this time extends to show a black-robed necromancer turning his Ork family into undead thralls.
  • Refuge in Audacity: In order to explain to passers-by what Brand and Kapnos are doing during the break-in, Grymharl tells people that her cat got stuck on the roof...and they assume that Kapnos is the cat. She goes along with it, but the sheer audacity then leads to her throwing up in a nearby barrel.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: After successfully breaking in to Sophia's house via the chimney, Ray takes a moment to ask why nobody suggested he should try to just pick the lock.
