"I pronounce you married as shit!"

"Here's to us. We've had a hell of a run."
Klaus

"Wedding at the End of the World" is the eighth episode of The Umbrella Academy's third season.

Flashbacks show that Reginald oversaw the building of the Hotel Obsidian, and sent a squad of soldiers through the portal, only for them to be massacred by whatever was on the other side.

Five has given up on solving the kugelblitz and suggests just accepting the end of the universe. Luther and Sloane put a wedding together, while Reginald and Klaus arrive at the hotel. Reginald resumes being harsh to his children, which does not go over well. Klaus suggests being kinder to them.

Luther and his brothers hold a stag party, while Sloane stands up to Ben. Klaus marries Sloane and Luther with the family in attendance; at the reception, he unsuccessfully attempts to recruit the others to help Reginald's plan. Reginald shows up anyway and attempts to make peace, including making a good speech. At Luther's request Viktor attempts to reconcile with Allison, to no avail.

The siblings (except Allison), Sloane, and Ben sit on the roof as the kugelblitz begins to consume their surroundings. A drunk Five overhears someone cutting a deal with Reginald.

Tropes:

  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Diego scoffs at Lila's statement that they used to have Luther and Sloane's gentle love. When Lila slaps him,he says, "That's more like it."
  • Damned by Faint Praise: During his "father of the bride" speech Reginald calls Luther an "adequate partner".
Five: He just called Luther adequate.
Diego: That's the nicest thing he's ever said to him.
  • I Am Very British: Quintessential British Gentleman Reginald recognizes Lila's Cockney accent, and tells her that his own was "stamped out in favor of the Queen's".
  • Never My Fault: Allison refuses to take any blame for her destroyed relationship with Viktor, claiming it's all on him that they're in this situation.
  • Overly Narrow Superlative: When given a recap of the wedding night, Luther responds with:
"You know, that's not bad for a Hargreeves family wedding at the end of the world."
  • Playing Catch with the Old Man: Klaus tells Luther he "played catch with" their abusive father to Luther as proof their relationship has improved (really, he meant he sent Klaus into traffic with a ball several times).
  • Rejected Apology: Allison doesn't accept Viktor's apology.
  • Warts and All: Klaus compliments to the old timeline's Ben consist of negative traits, yet he states he loved his Ben for it.
  • Wedding Episode: Deciding to just accept the apocalypse head-on, Luther and Sloane get married, with the rest of the family attending. The ceremony and reception are full of sentiment and bonding.
  • While Rome Burns: Reginald indignantly compares the Umbrellas and Sparrows giving up on saving the universe and focusing on Luther and Sloane's wedding to Nero fiddling while Rome burned.
