Recap / The Tick S 1 E 7 The Tick Vs The Tick

Go To

The Tick and his friends enjoy spending a fun night at a nightclub for superheroes. That is, until another arachnid-themed "hero" named Barry comes and accuses Tick of stealing his hero name before picking a fight with him. Meanwhile, Arthur is forced to spend his night at the "Sidekick Lounge". And a talkative, loony, bomb-themed supervillain enacts his explosive plans toward the club....

Tropes pertaining to The Tick vs. the Tick

  • Bullying a Dragon: As Big Shot points out, the Tick can easily clean Barry's clock. The only thing that spared Barry from getting knocked out instantly was his shield, which can amplify kinetic energy. That said, Tick finally defeats him by simply kicking him through the roof, sending him crashing to the ground outside.
  • Jerkass: Barry, A.K.A. "The Tick" (not the Tick we know and love), big time. People think he's a hero just because he's rich and his brother in law owns The Comet Club, but acts like a jerk and is a Smug Super. When the regular Tick, Arthur, Die Fledermaus, and Sewer Urchin came to the club, Barry attempted to beat The (real) Tick up because The Tick "stole his superhero name", knocked out Big Shot when he was trying to help him, and tried to force The Tick to give up his name by pinning him under his shield. Thankfully Arthur arrived to tell him of the Mad Bomber in the club, which distracted him long enough for The Tick to regain his strength and finish Barry off. It's also implied Barry lost his name because of his actions.

Tick: Oh, what's in a name, anyway? If I were called "Bob" or "Jack" or "Vinny" or a piece of fruit, would I be any less a hero? And if Barry were called "Rupert", "Max" or "Rainbow", would he be any less a jerk? I don't think so. Because a name is a rose and it only smells as sweet as you are.
