Recap / The Storyteller E 04 The Luck Child

Go To

In a kingdom menaced by a hungry griffon and a tyrannical ruler, an oracle gives a prophecy that a Luck Child will one day become king. Determined to stay on the throne, the evil king hunts down the Luck Child and throws him over a cliff... But the Luck Child lives up to his name, still being safe and growing up into a good young man named Lucky. Eventually the king finds Lucky once again, and now Lucky will have to deal with more of his foul plots.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Born Lucky: The whole schtick of a Luck Child, the world itself seems to love them and amazing coincidences happen to protect them.
  • Karma Houdini: The griffon is never killed and isn't punished for his crimes, despite being outright described as one of the two terrors of the kingdom. It is implied the thief's goulash ensures he no longer goes out to hunt humans anymore, though it still surprising he gets out of the story without being slain given the king pays for his crimes.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Courtesy of Lucky's luck, the evil king's daughter marries Lucky and the king is reduced to an eternally miserable boatman when his greed takes him to the griffon's isles.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • The one person the evil king loves is his daughter and is determined that she remain unmarried.
    • The greedy thief who captures Lucky intends to rob him, but then he finds the letter the king gave him and is horrified to see the king intends Lucky to be cut into pieces. The thief then forges a letter so that Lucky marries the king's daughter, then later he risks his life to save Lucky from the griffon and get a feather.
    • The griffon treats the thief with affection and sincerely likes him. Even when the thief pulls out one of his feathers, the griffon refuses to eat him.
