Go To

Return to Recap: The Smurfs.

Handy creates a robotic Smurf that can brew sarsaparilla soup and dispense it from the top of his hat.

Tropes associated with this story include:

  • The Cameo: Smurfette is reduced to this in the story.
  • Clockwork Creature: Clockwork.
  • Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: The Papercutz English version has the Smurfs sing The Smurfs theme song when they victoriously leave Gargamel's hovel.
  • Evil Twin: Gargamel creates an evil version of Clockwork Smurf to infiltrate the village and dispense a magical mixture similar to sarsaparilla soup that mutates the Smurfs.
  • Fork Fencing: Both the real Clockwork Smurf and his fake counterpart are given eating utensils to fight with each other — the fake Clockwork is given a fork and knife, and the real Clockwork a spoon.
  • Frothy Mugs of Water: Averted, as Gargamel and Azrael are seen boozing it up with a bottle of wine.
  • Remix Comic: The story is actually a remix of a Product Placement multi-ad story, in this case an anthropomorphic jar of Benco chocolate milk powder.
  • Soup Is Medicine: The Smurfs ask Clockwork Smurf to give a sick Smurf a bowl of sarsaparilla soup. Unbeknownst to them, the Clockwork with them is Gargamel's evil creation, and the soup is actually a potion that turns them into hideous monsters.
