Recap / The Scooby Doo Show S 3 E 3 A Scary Night With A Snow Beast Fright

Go To

The gang's friend Professor Krueger invites them to the North Pole, but when he's kidnapped by a dinosaur-like monster, they set out to rescue him.

This episode includes examples of the following:

  • Chekhov's Gun: When Scooby-Doo is frozen solid in an ice block, the female sled dog remembers when Scooby heated up in excitement over her and starts sniffing Scooby's ice block. Sure enough, the heat from Scooby's lust thaws him out.
  • Kai Ju: Possibly the very first exceptionally large monster faced in the franchise, the Snow Beast is a Godzilla-esque creature that at several points appears large enough to lift entire buildings off the ground.
  • Our Cryptids Are More Mysterious: The Snow Beast may be an Expy of the Partridge Creek Monster, a carnivorous theropod dinosaur reported in northern Canada.
  • "Scooby-Doo" Hoax: The culprit is smuggling oil out of the country in a submarine, and used the Snow Beast to chase people away from the totem poles (actually disguised oil derricks) he was using to get it.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The gang encounters the eponymous monster when they travel to an Inuit village to meet a professor. Upon arriving, they learn that the professor was recently kidnapped by the monster. Everyone else in the area has already fled except for the native chief and the professor's assistant, both of whom are packing up their belongings and preparing to leave as well. Chief Manook is kidnapped by the monster before he can make good on his plans to flee, and Jean-Baptiste the assistant turns out to be the culprit.
  • T. Rexpy: The Snow Beast resembles a furry Tyrannosaurus. (Curiously, this was before the first discoveries of feathered dinosaurs.)
  • Temporary Love Interest: Scooby-Doo develops a crush on a female husky pulling Chief Manook's sled, heating up to the point where he melts ice and snow around him. The female husky takes advantage of this to thaw Scooby out after he freezes from the icy winds on top of a totem pole.
