The vice president visits the city. The police force spends the day preparing and protecting the visit.
In the process, Chen is stuck with a needle from a homeless woman and has to go the the hospital to get tests, West is distracted because he was supposed to have breakfast with his mother for the first time in months and Nolan is equally distracted because his ex wife is selling their house.
- Mercy Kill: A woman in a hospital thinks she's doing it to her apparently brain dead brother. She is stopped and there is no follow up, so it's not clear if that's actually what would have happened.
- Pet the Dog: When a woman with an obscene poster of the vice president in her window says she can't take it down because her neighbour promised her 100$ to keep it up, and she needs hat money to pay rent, Lopez says that she's noticed multiple code violations and there's no reason forgiving the rent can't be part of the building owners punishment.
- Photo Op with the Dog: The Vice President visits a number of locations that cause no end of hell for the LAPD. His motivation is simply to look good for a camera.
- Spotting the Thread: When Lucy is in the hospital bathroom, trying to calm herself waiting for her test results, she meets another crying woman who says her father was in a car accident and it's not looking good. When Lucy finds a bottle of bleach after the other woman leaves, she realizes that something is wrong and instead follows her to find her attempting to kill her brother.
