Naofumi Iwatani continues his adventure in this second volume. But his task is not yet complete and obstacles mount as the increasingly ominous waves of destruction approach. He finds a new friend and new powerful abilities that may prove to be too dangerous for the companionship. - Dick Dastardly Stops to Cheat: Malty screwed herself and Motoyasu out of the win in the impromptu race she declared against Naofumi for ownership of the Village, though to be fair, thanks to Naofumi's superior steed in Filo, Motoyasu's odds weren't great in a fair race anyway- exactly like the last time he and Naofumi faced each other. Buffing Motoyasu and Debuffing Naofumi was subtle enough, but eventually, when she and her cronies resorted to creating pitfalls underneath Naofumi to trip him up, they left clear evidence of their misdeeds for the impartial shadows to find. As a bonus, Motoyasu ended up falling into the self-made hole Naofumi avoided in the final stretch.
- Pet the Dog: When the King tries revoking potential funds to Naofumi with the pretense of paying for Raphtalia's crest removal, Ren and Itsuki come to Naofumi's defense, revealing that they knew that Malty had cheating in Naofumi and Motoyasu's duel and threaten to make this public if he doesn't give him the money.
