Recap / The Rising of the Shield Hero S2E7 "Infinite Labyrinth"

Go To

Tropes for this episode include:

  • Build Like an Egyptian: One part of the Infinite Labyrinth resembles an Egyptian Temple.
  • Call-Back: Naofumi uses a bioplant seed he saved up in order to overwhelm the room with the glitch in it.
  • For Want Of A Nail: In the Light Novel and Manga, Raphtalia is separated from Naofumi and has to team up with L'Arc, Theresa and Glass, which happens three episodes later in the anime. Here, she winds up in the Infinite Labyrinth alongside Naofumi and Rishia.
  • Friendly Fireproof: While the Cardinal Hunting Tool is effective against monsters, it's impossible to hurt or kill humans with it, shown when Kizuna tries to slice Naofumi's head off with its machete-form and fails as a demonstration.
  • Kappa: Naofumi's party ends up overpowered by one.
  • Minus World: Naofumi and Kizuna compare the supposed way out of the Infinite Labyrinth to a bug left in a game, with the other side being the way out of the "game".
  • Older Than They Look: Naofumi is surprised to find out that Kizuna is 18. She's offended that he was going to call her a "loli-hag."
  • Razor Floss: Kizuna manages to kill the kappa by wrapping it in her fishing-lure.
  • Reality-Breaking Paradox: Naofumi makes the Infinite Labyrinth collapse by using the bioplant seed to make the flaw bigger, not unlike exacerbating a glitch to make the game crash.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Having been deaged, all of Raphtalia's old gear is too heavy for her to carry around. She also struggles to swing her sword because it's taller than her now.
  • Your Magic's No Good Here: When Naofumi awakens in the Infinite Labyrinth, he finds that he, Raphtalia and Rishia had been reset to Level One, with none of the weapons or skills they had collected. In Raphtalia's case, she had deaged too.

Kizuna the Loli Hag

Naofumi is surprised to find out that not only is Kizuna a friend of Glass, who he was enemies with at the time, but also the fact that Kizuna is actually 18 years old despite her small stature. She's offended that Naofumi was about to call her a "loli-hag" despite he tried to stop himself from doing so.
