Recap / The Really Loud House S 1 E 6 The Banana Split Decision

Go To

It's Parent-Teacher Conference Night, and Lincoln is set on winning a Banana Split on a Canoe from Auntie Pam's.

Tropes:

  • Acquired Situational Narcissism: Initially, Lincoln doesn't care that he's late in submitting his midterm essay to Mr. Bolhofner, since this is Lisa's first parent-teacher conference, and knowing her massive intelligence she is guaranteed to get a good review. He ends up getting a wakeup call when Lisa's social ineptitude nets her a bad review.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Every time it seems like one of the kids would get a good review, they get a bad one. And every time it seems like they'd get a bad review, they'd get a good one.
  • Big "NO!": Lincoln shrieks out two of those when he realizes Lisa got a bad review, and when he realizes he's the siblings' last hope in getting that banana split.
  • Black Speech: Lucy's poem to summon the Nether Beast is in this language. The Nether Beast himself speaks in this same language.
  • A Dog Ate My Homework: In this case for Lincoln, "The Nether Beast Stole My Homework". Doubles as Cassandra Truth because Mr. Bolhofner doesn't believe it. Then again, who would?
  • No Social Skills: Lisa, which is why she gets a bad review from her teachers.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Many of the teachers have never been seen before in the animated series. It's somewhat Justified as it had yet to explore the school lives of the other siblings, meaning they had to be made from scratch.
    • The animated series eventually would reveal the twins' second-grade teacher, but rather than recycling Miss Daisy from this episode, a new character named Mr. Sayers was created from scratch.
  • Running Gag: Lynn Sr. accidentally hitting a trash can every time he pulls up to a school for the conferences. Subverted during Luan's conference, when he doesn't hit a trash can. Double Subverted when he trips on one anyway once he gets out of Vanzilla.
  • The Voice: During the flashback to the Mick Swagger concert, Mick's only "appearance" is through his voice, using archived audio from the animated series.
