Recap / The Real Ghostbusters Slimer 27 Slimer And The Beanstalk

Go To

Peter is reading a bedtime story to Slimer. He is reading Jack and the Beanstalk, but Slimer insists on being put in the story in Jack's place.

The story begins in an olden-time version of the firehouse, where Janine (standing in for Jack's mother) tells Slimer that they are broke and must sell their "cow" (actually a cow-print version of Chilly's van). He sells it to the magic bean guy (played by Rafael), but instead of five regular-sized magic beans, he gets one giant one.

He thinks Janine will love it, but she instead gets mad. Slimer tries to prove it's magic by putting an eyedropper of water on it, which grows the beanstalk. A sign on the beanstalk says, "Gold this way", so Slimer follows it (on an escalator instead of climbing it like Jack).

He thinks he's found a swimming pool, but it's actually the water dish of a giant Elizabeth. He goes out and surveys the giant house, but she chases him. He enters the house and encounters the giant, who is played by Dweeb (with an offscreen appearance by his mom).

He's suspicious about the ectoplasm on his counter, but upon realising it's noon, he goes to count his money. When he reveals that he earnt it from conning the villagers, Slimer concludes that giant Dweeb is bad news. Giant Elizabeth starts chasing Slimer, who hides in the fruit bowl. When giant Dweeb begins making some lunch, Slimer notices a key around his neck.

He steals giant Dweeb's sandwich and the key, then tries to steal the money but can't lift it. He spills a jar of magic beans and pushes the bag of gold onto the spilled beans, pushing them along. He then goes down the beanstalk, but the giant Dweeb and Elizabeth follow. They, however, are sent back up to the house, and giant Dweeb is grounded by giant Mrs. Dweeb.

Peter ends the story, but Slimer is afraid. Peter assures him that giants are not real, but then Dweeb shows up, having somehow become a giant.

This episode provides examples of

  • Adapted Out:
    • The cow from the original story doesn't feature, since she's replaced with the ice cream truck.
    • The giant's wife from the original story also doesn't feature.
    • The golden goose also doesn't feature in the story.
  • Age Lift: Slimer is (probably) not a child, whereas in the original story, Jack was.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Peter says giants don't exist, despite having seen plenty of supernatural stuff (including reading to a ghost right now).
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: At the end, we see an inexplicably-giant Dweeb in "real life".
  • Beanstalk Parody: It's a retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk with Slimer in the place of Jack.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": The giant Dweeb's mother yells at him to be quiet.
  • But You Were There, and You, and You: Invoked — Slimer tells Peter to base the characters off him and his acquaintances.
  • Canis Major: Dweeb is standing in for the giant, but he still has Elizabeth, so she's rendered as a giant dog.
  • Canon Foreigner: Dweeb is standing in for the original beanstalk giant, and so giant versions of Mrs. Dweeb and Elizabeth are added.
  • Character Name and the Noun Phrase: The title follows the same format as Jack and the Beanstalk.
  • Con Man: Giant Dweeb apparently swindled many villagers out of their gold by selling them magic beans.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Played for Laughs — not only did Dweeb somehow become a giant offscreen, he's selling beans just like in the story.
  • Death by Adaptation: In the original story, Jack is a little boy. Here, he's a ghost.
  • Ectoplasm: Exploited when the giant Dweeb knows Slimer is around due to the slime on his door.
  • Fingore: Slimer steals giant Dweeb's sandwich just before he's about to take a bite, leading to him accidentally biting his fingers.
  • Forgot About His Powers: Slimer in the story climbs an escalator up the beanstalk instead of flying.
  • "Getting Ready for Bed" Plot: The episode takes place within a bedtime story which is being read to Slimer by Peter.
  • Giant Food: The story features some giant bread and fruit on the table.
  • Happily Ever After: Peter ends the story with Slimer and Janine living happily ever after.
  • Happy Dance: Giant Dweeb dances around gleefully when counting his money.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Peter says giants aren't real, only for Dweeb to immediately show up as a giant.
  • Nasal Trauma: Slimer pulls giant Elizabeth's nose.
  • Oh, Crap!: Slimer says, "Uh-oh!" when he realises he's in a giant's house.
  • Our Giants Are Bigger: Dweeb is a giant in the story.
  • Real After All: Downplayed — while the story itself doesn't come true, the ending shows that Professor Dweeb somehow has become a giant.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: Downplayed — the giant Dweeb doesn't say everything in rhyme, but most of his dialogue is "fe fi fo fum" type rhymes.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: In the original story, the giant dies, but here, he survives and is grounded.
  • Storybook Episode: This episode shows the main cast re-enacting a parody of Jack And The Beanstalk.
  • Tempting Fate: Slimer in the story says that "Momma" (Janine) will love the magic bean, but when he shows her, she gets very angry.
  • Wild Take:
    • Slimer's eyes go out of his head when he sees that the giant Elizabeth is chasing him.
    • When he sees her again, his pupils pop out and his tongue sticks out.
  • You Are Grounded!: Giant Mrs. Dweeb yells, "That's it, you're grounded!" when her son makes too much noise.
